November Members Meeting and New Members Induction

The OYRHLC is proud to announce the induction of our two newest members Lion Eric Lam and Lion Kenneth Ng.  Thanks to Region Chair Lion Hugh Adams for visiting our club and inducting our Lions.  Welcome aboard Lion Eric and Lion Kenneth joining us to serve the community.  Together we can, together we will.

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Preparation

Spearheaded by one of our newest Lion Kenneth, the Heritage Lions get to support the Operation Christmas Child this year.  7 lions, volunteer in our neighborhood and families got together on November 12, we prepared 10 shoeboxes filled with gifts and daily items for children in needs.  It was a great weekend to kick off the festive season by getting together to serve.

Used Eyeglasses Collection

The Heritage Lions has continue collecting used eyeglasses through out the year of 2022.  With the support of our community partners, we have collected over 1,000 eyeglasses and lens.  The vision service is one pillar of our services continuing through these years and will keep going on.

Fall Park Clean up

OYRHLC has the Fall Park Clean up at Toogood Pond Park on October 30th, 2022.  Four lions and families got together in the morning for the clean up.

Summer Park Clean up

OYRHLC has the Summer Park Clean up at Toogood Pond Park on July 30th, 2022.  Six lions and families participated in the clean up.  It is a good chance we get together in our community.  Thank you!

Members Meeting and Club Officer Installation

We are proud to announce that the OYRHLC club officers of 2022-2023 were installed on July 24th.  Thanks to DG Lion Carylon Stephenson help being the installing officer, and also our guests and families joining the celebration.  It is a new year that we look forward to more new service activities that we can continue to serve!

PetValu Walk for Dog Guides@Richmond Hill

OYRHLC held the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides at Richmond Green Park on May 28th, 2022.  Thanks to all the walkers, volunteers, lions and everyone supported the walk. With your kind support and donations, we are able to raise over $2,500 for the Lions Foundation of Canada dog guides service. Thank you!

Effective Speaking Contest 2022

OYRHLC held the Effective Speaking Contest on March 6th, 2022.  There were 13 contestants in the intermediate division, and 11 contestants in the junior division completed in today's online contest. It was a great day to see the youth showcasing their communication skills and community engagement.  Thanks to all the contestants, parents, educators, judges, sponsors and Lions helped made it happen!

First Aid Recertification Training

OYRHLC has the Standard First Aid recertification course held on Feb 21st.   Thanks to St. John Ambulance First Aid instructor Mr. Ben Lo being the course instructor, 5 of our club members with 4 friends and families have completed the course.  It is a valuable training that helps us better equipped to serve the community.

15th Anniversary - Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club

15 years ago, February 6th, 2007, a group of like minded and service oriented individuals came together.  The group founded the Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club.
15 years after, February 6th, 2022, the Heritage Lions continue to serve, 5479 days and counting.  
Thanks to every Heritage Lion served in all these years.  We carry the fire and will keep going on.

Winter Food Drive

OYRHLC has collected 332lb of food supporting the Markham Ward 8 Fight Hunger Food Drive Challenge 2021.  Food collected and brought to donation point 105 Gibson Centre on December 18.  Thanks to all the Lions, families and friends supported this season's food drive.  We are glad to have the opportunity to support the community together.

Fall Park Cleanup and Eyeglasses Recycling

OYRHLC has the Fall Park Clean up at Toogood Pond Park on September 11th, 2021.  Six lions and two of their friends were able to participate.  We have also counted 575 pairs of eyeglasses collected in the summer for the eyeglasses recycling program.  Together, we will continue to serve!

OYRHLC has the Summer Park Clean up at Toogood Pond Park on July 3rd, 2021.  Five lions and their families are able to participate.  We have also counted over 200 pairs of eyeglasses collected in the recent months for the eyeglasses recycling program.  We are thankful to have the opportunity continue to serve!

PetValu Virtual Walk for Dog Guides 2021@Richmond Hill

OYRHLC had the PetValu Virtual Walk for Dog Guides 2021 at Richmond Hill on May 30th.  Due to the situation this years walk is being held virtually.  Despite the circumstances, thanks to all walkers, donors and Lions supporting this walk, we continue to raised over $1,000 for the LFC Dog Guides Service this year.  Thank you!

Effective Speaking Contest 2021

OYRHLC held the Effective Speaking Contest 2021 on March 21st, 2021.  This is the first online contest being held by OYRHLC.  With 14 contestants competing in today's contest, it was a great day to see the youth in our community showing their exceptional skills on public speaking in a different platform and environment.  We are also glad to have past contest winner Vedant coming back to help as MC of the contest.  Thanks to all the contestants, parents, educators, judges, sponsors and Lions helped made it happen!

Winter Food Drive

OYRHLC has collected 250 lb of food in the winter food drive.  The food are donated to The Food Bank of York Region on Feb 19th, 2021.  Thanks to all the Lions and families supported this seasons food drive.  We are glad to continue our service to the community safely and warmly.

Fall Park Clean Up and Eyeglass collection

OYRHLC has the Fall park clean up at Toogood Pond Park on October 3rd, 2020.  Seven lions and their families participated in the clean up.  We also took the chance to help on sorting used eyeglasses for the eyeglasses recycling program after the park clean up.  Together, we will continue to serve!

On-line Seminar - Paradigm Shift to e-Learning

OYRHLC held the online seminar 'Paradigm Shift in e-Learning' on August 15, 2020.  We are pleased to have Mr. Ming Lee to be the speaker, discussed about the changes e-learning brought to education.  It is a great afternoon that members and parents able to learn about and share issues that students may have during these changes in the pandemic.

Summer Park Clean Up

OYRHLC has restarted the Park Clean up at Toogood Pond Park on Aug 1st, 2020.  Seven lions and their families are able to participate.  It is quite a bit of work, but we are thankful to have the opportunity continue to serve and to keep the park clean!

Online Seminar -
Common Legal Issues in Labour, Tenancy and Contract arising from COVID-19

OYRHLC held an online seminar on May 17th 2020.  We are pleased to have our club member, Lion Cynthia, a licened paralegal to discuss about common legal issues in labour, tenancy and contract arising from COVID-19.  It is a great afternoon for both the community and our members to learn about some of the latest developments in the current situation that are also affecting our daily life.

Mental Health Awareness during Social Distancing (English)

OYRHLC held the second online seminar on May 2nd 2020.  We are pleased to have Ms. Maria Lo from Hong Fook Mental Health Association be the speaker of a english seminar on discussing mental health awareness and some practical means in day to day life on reducing anxiety.  It is thankful that we can continue working together with our community partner to keep serving the community in this period.

Mental Health Awareness during Social Distancing (Cantonese)

OYRHLC held the first online seminar on April 11th 2020.  Due to the situation of COVID-19 virus outbreak and the subsequence social distancing measures, OYRHLC see the rise of mental health concerns in the community.  OHRHLC worked again with Hong Fook Mental Health Association.  We are pleased to have Ms. Tweety Yuen as speaker of the seminar on discussing mental stress in this period and tips on anxiety handling.  There were over 50 participants joined the session.  It is a valuable experience for all of us on getting the up-to-date information in an interactive setting, and also serving the community while staying home.
