Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club held the 3th Annual Purina Walk for Dog Guides at Toogood Pond Park in Unionville on Sunday, May 25, 2014 to raise funds for the Dog Guides program of Lions Foundation of Canada.
There were 11 dogs with 20 participants joining the Walk.
On May 4th, Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club had held the first tree planting event in year 2014. With over 80 volunteers at Austin Drive Park, over 200 trees have been planted at Austin Park in Markham.
It is an annual project working together with Evergreen and City of Markham.
OYRHLC once again participated in the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination Event organized by York Region Police this year. This event is a great opportunity to promote and bring awareness to the public about Lions Club.
On March 2nd, OYRHLC held its 7th Annual Effective Speaking Contest. There are a total of 22 contestants in Cup, Junior and Intermediate divisions. Winners from the Junior and Intermediate divisions also participated in the district A-16 level contest with great achievements; our Junior Contestant won 1st place in the Junior Division and will be representing A16 in the MDA Contest in May, whereas our Intermediate Contestant won 2nd place.
On November 24th, Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club the Diabetes Tag Day fundraising for the 2nd time at First Markham Place, Markham ON. Thanks to all supporters at the mall, the Club raised a total of $151.95.
Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guide Centre at Oakville held an Open House for October 26th, 2013, and six members from Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club had attended the open house. Members had a tour around the facilities, learned about the six different training programs, as well as chances to meet the puppies of the future guide dogs!!
It is a great experiences for our members, and encourage the Club continue holding the Purina Walk for Guide Dogs to support the program.
Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club, co-hosted with Maple Lions Club, held two days E-Waste Collection event at Milliken Mills Community Center on July 27th & 28th, 2013. With Lion Dale and Lion Sylvia (from Maple Lions Club) assistance, the event was a success and collected two full bins and trailers of e-waste over the two days.
Also, We were honoured having District Governor Lloyd Clifton visited us at the site on the 2nd day.
Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club held its 1st July meeting for 2013-2014 on July 21st, 2013, when the new Club Officers were installed by 1st Vice District Governor Lion Eleanor Colwell.
The Club was honoured to have Lion Dale McClease and Lion Sylvia McClease from Maple Lions Club joining us and gave a speech on their E-Waste Collection program.
Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club participated in ORBIS's fundraising event "Pull for Sight" on Sunday, July 14th, 2013. Took place at FedEx Apron, Toronto Pearson International Airport, the team of 25 participants pulled a Boeing 757 aircraft for 12 ft in 7.54 secs. The team raised a total of $2,157.32.
Once again, Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club hosted the Wii tournament on Canada Day (July 1, 2013) at Richmond Green. This is in support to Town of Richmond in celebrating Canada Day.
This year, the tournament included two different Wii games; Carnival and Mario Party
