The Heritage Lions Club participated in the York Region Police International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination 2025. It was a wonderful day to meet with different organizations and community members, learning more of our community and neighbors, and celebrate this special occasion together!
The Heritage Lions Club held the 18th Effective Speaking Contest at Markham Civic Centre. There were 20 contestants participated in the contest. It was a great day to see the youth in our community showcasing their communication skills and community engagement. Thanks to all the contestants, parents, educators, judges, volunteers and Lions helped making it happen!
The Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club held the first Lunar New Year Fair on Jan 25th and 26th, 2025 at Langham Square in Markham. Co-hosting with Opera One association, there were over 20 booths from various organizations, artisans and local businesses in the fair. There performances carrying on through out the two days of event. The receipts from the fair participants are warm and positive. Dontaions and proceeds are also forwarded to Lions Foundation of Dog Guide supporting the Difference campaign.
The Heritage Lions had the New Year gather on January 3rd, 2025. It was a wonderful evening Lions, families and friends get together for a warm and cheerful dinner.
The Heritage Lions had the fall Park Clean up at Toogood Pond Park on Nov 2ndth, 2024. 5 Lions with their families and friends participated in the clean up today.
The Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club held the 2nd Mental Wellness Expo 'Breaking Chains · Embrace Life' on Oct 19th, 2024 in 105 Gibson Centre in Markham. Speakers from 4 different services organizations provided seminars related with different kinds of addictions. 22 community organizations jointly participated and had booths to showcase their services in the expo to participants. Thanks to all the all Lions, community members, partnering organizations and sponsors, we are able to get to together to learn and explore for ourselves and our community.
As a part two of the Heritage Lions Club - Markham Unionville Rotary Club joint summer food drive, the Heritage Lions and Rotarians work with 25 volunteers from the community on Oct 5 collecting the bags distributed earlier. Ward 8 Councillor Lion Isa, Markham Fire Services, and the Amica group are all helping the volunteers in the collection run also. over 1,500 lb of food were collected and donated to the Markham food bank. Thank you to all the volunteers and donors making this food drive happen!
The Heritage Lions joint force with the Markham-Unionville Rotary Club to have the Fall food drive. Together with Lions, Rotarians and 22 volunteers in the community, 1,000 food collection bags are distributed. Bags distributed will be collected in a week time, to be donated to the Markham Food Bank.
The Heritage Lions continues the used eyeglasses collections throughout the year of 2024. With the support of our community partners, we have collected over 1,400 pairs of eyeglasses and sunglasses in 2024. The vision service is one pillar of our services continuing through these years and will keep going on.
We are proud to announce that the OYRHLC club officers of 2024-2025 were installed on July 20th. Thank you to Past MDA Council Chair Lion Debbie Dawson being the installation officer. We are also thankful having PCC Lion Tim Cheung, fellow Lions from our district and neighboring district, and also friends from different community groups came celebrating with us and our families today. It is a great start of a new Lion year that we look forward to working together to serve!
