OYRHLC held the Pet Valu Walk for Dog Guides at Richmond Green Park on May 27th, 2018. Thanks to all the walkers, volunteers, lions and everyone supported the walk. With your kind support and donations, we are able to raise over $1,800 for the Lions Foundation of Canada dog guides service. Thank you!
The OYRHLC participated in the Joy Beyond Vision Community (JBVC) Run Beyond Vision on May 5th 2018. It was a rainy but scenic 5 km run at the Mississauga lakeshore. Thanks to all the friends and lions supported this fund raising run that help the vision impaired community.
The OYRHLC has collected over 150lb of food in this season's food drive. The food were donated to the 105 Gibson Centre Food Bank Service. Thanks to all the lions and friends supporting this season's food drive!
We are delighted to participate in the York Region Police (YRP) International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. It was a wonderful day to meet with a wide range of different organizations and learn how they serve in our community.
It is Spring time and the Lion Foundation of Canada (LFC) Dog Guides open house. It is always amazing to see the dog guides in action showing how they serve in the six different programs (Vision, Hearing Aid, Service, Seziure Response, Autism Assistance and Diabetic Alert). And no one would want to leave without meeting with the future dog guides puppies.
OYRHLC participated in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of York A&B Courier Rock n Bowl for Kids' Sake 2018. It was a wonderful bowling night to get together with our friends, and better yet, raised fund for the BBBSY mentoring programs supporting youth in our community.
Ontario York Region Heritage Lions Club held the 11th Annual Effective Speaking Contest at Markham Civic Center's Council Chamber on March 11th, 2018.
With 12 contestants competed in the contest, it was a great day we see the students in our community showing their exceptional skills on public speaking. Once again, congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to all the participants, parents, educators, judges, sponsors, volunteers and lions helped making it happen!
Thanks to all the friends and families joining us for the OYRHLC Christmas gathering. We have collected 120lb of food for the winter food drive during the gathering. Also thanks to our friend Steve bringing in the entertainment system for a fun and festive karaoke session in the afternoon.
It was a great pleasure to work with Markham Lions Club and Markham Unionville Rotary Club in the First Annual Markham Christmas Market. The OYRHLC is honored to sponsor the Joy Beyond Vision Community bringing Pastor Danny Leung's award winning Hong Kong style Milk Tea to the Christmas Market. Together with volunteers from JBVC, we served more than 200 cups of delicious milk tea to visitors of the market. It was a joyful and savory weekend to kick off the holiday season!
Thanks to the help of student volunteers, OYRHLC has the Toogood Pond park clean up on October 22nd. The weather has start getting cool but it is a busy time for our volunteers that has collected six bags of garbage from the park.
The OYRHLC is proud to announce the induction of our newest member Lion Cythnia Cheung. Welcome aboard Lion Cythnia, it is a long journey ahead that WE SERVE together.
OYRHLC has the park clean up at TooGood Pond Park, Unionville on the August 27th. It is a busy summer day in the park that our members has collected four large bags of garbage.
With the beginning of a new Lions year, the OYRHLC held the club officers installation in Sunday, July 23rd. Thanks to all the guests, friends and families who have joined us for this memorable moment. And also a special thanks to Pastor Danny Leung from Joy Beyond Vision Community sharing his own experience and the organization mission on vision impairment services. It is a new year of more works and services to be done and WE SERVE together.
